Volume

Volume is used as a technical indicator in technical analysis. Volume refers to the size of the share turnover measured in monetary terms or in quantity. High volume in a stock when the share price goes up means that the rise can be considered strong.

High volume means that the volume is higher than the normal volume for the stock. When a share price is in an upward trend, the volume should increase when the share price goes up and the volume should decrease when the share prices goes down. A low volume in a rising phase indicates that the share price increase may be unhealty. Volume is considered to be a leading indicator for the stock price, a peak volume is usually achieved before the share price peak.

When a stock price decreases under high volume, it usually indicates a trend reversal and an end of the downward trend.
